Canley Vale Junior Rugby League Club’s, Valarie Uilou has told local newspaper Fairfield Advance, how proud she is of the progress the young club has made.
The club has become a finalist for the One Community Grassroots Club of the Year Award, for fostering participation and enjoyment at all levels of the community. The winner of the award will have also shown innovation in administration and be an integral part of their community.
“It’s just such a major award,” she told Fairfield Advance. “We are not talking district level we are talking nationwide. From a club that came from nothing a few years ago to one that is now one of the best in the Parramatta district, that in itself speaks volumes.”
The winning grassroots club will receive Telstra Assistance Packs worth $4000, which may assist in the running of the club.
The club is one of three finalists to be selected for the award, for which nominations were offered nationwide. Canley Vale JRLFC has a strong case to be in the top three with their exceptional service to the community. The club was nominated for their initiatives involving the donations of full sets of jerseys to local schools and of new unused jerseys, shorts and socks to Indigenous communities. They also donate a portion of their registration fees and raffle sales to respite care facility, Stewart House.
The awards will be held at the Sydney Town Hall on Monday, 26th September, 2011. Canley Vale JRLFC will also be featured alongside a selected few finalists in a Channel 9 exclusive show to be aired on Sunday, October 16th, 2011.
