Canley Vale Junior Rugby League Football Club in Sydney’s south-west has won the 2011 Women In League Round award for the best grassroots activity at their home ground over the weekend of celebrations to recognise the contribution of women to the game.
The dedicated and enthusiastic members of Canley Vale JRLFC added a splash of pink to almost everything they could at Adams Park during WIL Round from June 24-27 to claim the $1000 Harvey Norman gift card for their outstanding efforts.
They offered every woman who visited the ground a pink rose and free tea and coffee for the day. They sold pink food, volunteers dressed in pink, faces were painted pink and the ground announcer thanked all women who contribute to the game.
Activities were held at clubs across the country which saw thousands of people get involved in the annual celebration of the involvement of women in the game, which has now reached almost 50,000 at various levels.
Canley Vale members celebrate women in league week.
The next major opportunity to applaud the achievements of women in rugby league will be at the 2011 Community Awards in September during Grand Final Week.
Nominations for the WIL Achievement Awards (volunteer and paid staff) opened on July 8 and will close August 8. To nominate, click here.
