WESTFIELDS Sports High School's rising rugby league star Matthew Whitehouse is in course to becoming the next Andrew Johns.
The talented 14-year-old, who is a triplet, began playing for Cankey Heights under-12 division one team IN 2007 and was named player of the year at the end of the season.
His brother Benjamin was also nominated for this year's Junior Sports Star award and will be profiled next week.
Matthew received more than 20 medals throughout the year for his achievements on the field and admits to scoring more than 30 tries.
"It felt really good and it motivated me to play even better," Matthew said.
"I didn't think I would get any awards or medals because it was the first year I played rugby league."
Matthew is now playing in the under-14 division one team with Canley Vale Kookas in 2009.
"I was also selected to spend seven weeks at the Parramatta summer coaching clinic at the end of last year," he said.
"I learned the skills and rules of the game and how to improve my fitness.
"It was really, really good. I had a lot of fun."
He is now hoping to be selected for the Harols Matthews Cup at the end of this year.
