CANLEY Vale junior rugby league secretary Valarie Uilou is quick to pinpoint the reason for the Kookas' unprecedented success in 2011.
"Hard work," Ms Uilou said. "We're a small club but we're very professional and there are a lot of people who have put in a lot of hard work to make it happen."
Last week they were named the
Barefoot Rugby League Show junior club of the year.
The club received a signed NSW State of Origin jersey, a fitting reward for their many community programs and donation of jerseys to schools and to Papua New Guinea.
The Kookas are the Parramatta junior league club of the year and the clubs' club of the year.
They also won the Women In League Round award for the best
grassroots activity at their home ground in July.
Eyes now turn to the One Community awards on Monday where the club is one of the three finalists for the Grassroots Club of the Year award.
"To win a national award is no small thing so it'd pretty special," Ms Uilou said.
"I've been trying not to think about it but now it's so close it's hard not to!"
