If I have missed any one from the above lists then I would be very
grateful to receive information that allows me to update our records.
The club welcomed the commencement of the new millennium with just 7 teams in the competition
well down on previous years, however by years end there were 3 teams to contest the grand final, U10's coach Ray Howitt
U13's coach Bob Stanley and U14's coach Todd Armstrong. [Todd took over from Tony Allen about half way
through the season] A Great effort by all concerned.
The 10's met Cabramatta in the Grand Final at International Oval, Seven Hills. What a game, I
thoroughly enjoyed the game, with what I think, for a couple of teams of under 10 year olds was fantastic.
A fast, strong running lot of Kookas who deserved to be the champions, with a win over Cabramatta
of 19-8 the boys did themselves, their coach and club proud.
Congratulations boys and Ray!!
The 13's went down to Wentworthville in a game played at C.V.Kelly Park Toongabbie. A game coach
Bob would have loved to win to equal the club record for a coach of 3 grand final wins, alas Bob have another
go next year.
With a four pointer early the boys then went into their shell and allowed the opposition to over
run them to a resounding Wenty win of 42-4. Bad luck boys try again next year. Remember its hard
getting to a Grand Final so when you do get there you have to give everything you have, you must
give a 100% effort from the first whistle right through till you hear the final whistle. Team,
you did well to get to play a grand final. Lots of players junior & senior never get to
experience the excitement of that. WELL DONE!!
The under 14's took the field against Holroyd again at C.V.Kelly Park and by halftime our boys trailed
I'm afraid the second half was just as upsetting for the team, they just couldn't get going at
all, we all know they can play a lot better than they did in this game. Well its back to the
drawing board and 2001.
In 2000 a decision was taken at the annual general meeting to switch our allegence
from the Kookaburra Hotel after some 38 years to Lansvale United Sports Club
in Shortland Street Canley Vale, the reason for leaving the hotel was that after a very expensive renovation
the owners decided, to part company with the junior club.
At Lansvale United the juniors were very welcome.
To many members, it was a sad time, after all the years being supported by the
Kookaburra Hotel, it certainly was a strange feeling to have to switch our loyalties.
But this we did, obviously we MUST be loyal to our sponsors. The switch was organised
by the management of the club in 2000 and commenced at the beginning of the 2001 season.
After our 40th anniversary gathering at Lansvale United Sports Club, which closed at midnight, a small party of revellers
(16) wanted to bat on so moved ourselves to our previous sponsor which also showed we still appreciated their long term
sponsorship but to our surprise we were met with a difference that certainly wasn't a welcome. It was on that night we had
learnt the true facts about the change of our major sponsor. I won't go into the details surfice to say it was a totally
After a number of meetings with the Webster family, who had been, and rightly so, very aggressive towards us. After telling
them our side of things and after the several meetings we were able to bring the Webster family back on board as our major
2007 saw the sponsorship dollors double from Phil, Vickie and Audrey Webster from "Richards on the Park" hotel and so the
junior club severed ties with the Lansvale United Sports Club. It has to be said that our affilliation with that club was
a very happy one but a full return to our inaugural sponsor just had to be made.
